Reader appearance

Summary

Use the Reader’s built-in display settings and your browser’s accessibility controls to make long-form reading more comfortable.

Steps

1. Open Display settings in the Reader to find the controls available for the current story.
2. Choose a light, sepia, or dark theme; select a serif or sans typeface; then adjust text size, line spacing, and reading width.
3. Change one setting at a time and return to the passage to check the result; display preferences do not alter the author’s story text.
4. Use browser zoom or your device’s reduced-motion setting if you need larger content or less animated movement.

What to expect

• Reader preferences are for presentation and do not change story ratings, warnings, choices, or the creator’s source material.
• The available controls can vary by page or story format; browser zoom remains available when a specific Reader control is absent.
• Talevara aims for WCAG 2.2 AA and welcomes reports when text, controls, or focus become difficult to use.

Troubleshooting

• If a setting does not apply, close and reopen Display settings, select it again, and check whether the preference is remembered by your browser.
• If text is clipped at high zoom or on a narrow screen, report the Reader URL, zoom level, and browser/device.
• If motion causes discomfort, reduce or disable animation through the operating system/browser accessibility preferences and report any motion that persists.
